The Swingin' Tradewinds Jass Band

Hawaii's own Swingin' Tradewinds Jass Band is a nine piece band that specializes in big band swing era and and traditional New Orleans jazz.

Formerly the "Over the Hill Gang Jass Band", the Tradewinds formed in 1989. They have been featured at the Great Hawaiian Jazz Blowout for the last seven years. They also performed at HiLX 2005, HiLBX 2007 and several other swing dance events.

Lead by Jack Morse, the rest of the line up includes Charlie Rowe, Don Smith, Mike Satamoto, Fred Oshiro, Dick Bowman, Steve Carruthers, Carol Morse and Lew Maddox.

As one of the original DJs on the island, Brent embraces the vintage big band sounds as well as mixing it up with newer acts such as Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five.

He is the regular DJ at Swing Ong King and has DJed at every venue and event we have had on the island.

His passion for swing music pushes him to continually seek out more music to keep people on the dance floor.

DJ Jo Ann Coker

Jo Ann Coker, started DJing locally in 2003 and has played at most of the events on island including HiLX 2003, HiLX 2005 and HiLBX 2007.

On the Mainland, she most recently DJed at Camp Jitterbug 2007, Northwest Balboa Fest 2007, All Balboa Weekend 2007 and several venues in Seattle including the Century Ballroom.

Having a passion for music that "swings", Jo Ann could be heard playing many of the classics such as Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, Oscar Peterson, Count Basie and Django Reinhardt.

Kenny Russell is the regular DJ at Atherton on Sundays. He has only been dancing for about 2 years, but has loved swing era jazz music ever since he can remember.

With a list of DJ credits in the non jazz world from NYC to Ft. Lauderdale, he's no stranger to dance music. Along with a staggering collection of MP3's, CD's and original jazz LP's, he offers a wide range of authentic sounds in all areas of the Swing genre.
